In France’s first match under Zinedine Zidane, the result in the Turkish capital brought a narrow win but also an immediate concern. Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal against Turkey before leaving the field in visible discomfort after hurting his left knee.

Zidane began his tenure as France head coach with a 1-0 victory, Mbappé beating goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır at the near post. The Real Madrid forward, however, showed signs of pain soon after scoring and requested to be substituted.
The France manager indicated after the final whistle that the injury could bring an early end to Mbappé’s international duty.
“It does not look good,” Zidane said. “Unfortunately, I think he will have to go back to Madrid. We will not take any risks. He suffered a hyperextension in his knee while shooting, and it does not seem likely that he can continue.”
Mbappé’s absence would be a substantial setback for France, particularly as he remains central to the Ballon d’Or race. It also creates an unwelcome fitness concern for Real Madrid before a demanding October programme.
A crowded international and club calendar
France are due to play four matches during this international break, with Turkey representing only the opening fixture. Belgium are next on Tuesday, followed by Italy and then another meeting with Belgium, but Mbappé is not expected to feature in that sequence.
Madrid, led by José Mourinho, return from the break with Villarreal, Sevilla and Leipzig all scheduled to visit the Spanish capital in October. Away trips to Roma and Barcelona also await within the next month, making Mbappé’s condition a major issue for the club.
