De Rossi could take encouragement from the contribution of Messias and El Shaarawy, who stood apart within his team. Their displays provided the clearest positive element of the day.
For Fiorentina, the verdict was far less generous. Jimenez was the only player considered to have emerged with credit, while Mastantuono endured a disappointing outing.
It was therefore a chapter with contrasting individual outcomes: De Rossi’s group had two performers capable of lifting the standard, whereas the Viola were left relying largely on Jimenez for a positive note.
