Rayo Vallecano’s meeting with Athletic was interrupted before it could properly unfold after supporters threw a range of objects onto the pitch in protest.
The demonstration forced the postponement of the match, with the crowd’s anger directed at a club official whose departure has been demanded by sections of the Rayo support.
It was a stark scene at the Vallecas ground, where the protest moved from the stands onto the playing surface and left the fixture unable to continue as scheduled. The incident underlined the depth of discontent among supporters, who used the match against Athletic to press their call for change inside the club.
