Michkov Eyes Fourth Straight Goal Game as Flyers Visit Sabres

Wednesday’s two-game NHL slate brings a hot stick into Buffalo and a charged return to Ottawa, with Matvei Michkov chasing another mark for Philadelphia and Brady Tkachuk stepping back into Canadian Tire Centre in Panthers colors.

  • Matvei Michkov has scored in three straight games for the Flyers, collecting four goals and one assist in that stretch. The 21-year-old scored twice in Philadelphia’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday.
  • Michkov leads Philadelphia with six goals. His seven points are level with Trevor Zegras for the club lead. A goal in Buffalo would make him the first Flyers player aged 21 or younger to score in four consecutive games since Nolan Patrick in 2017-18.
  • The Flyers enter Wednesday at 2-6-3 and are seeking a third straight victory.
  • Buffalo winger Jack Quinn has seven points, including three goals, across his past four games. He is tied with Tage Thompson for the Sabres lead with nine points in nine games, on five goals and four assists.
  • Quinn has been particularly effective against Philadelphia, producing 11 points in his past eight meetings with the Flyers. That includes a five-game scoring run with five goals and three assists.
  • Brady Tkachuk returns to Ottawa for the first time since the June 21 trade that sent him from the Senators to Florida. Ottawa received two first-round selections in the 2026 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in 2027 and a conditional first-round pick in 2029.
  • Tkachuk captained the Senators for five seasons, from 2021-22 through 2025-26, during the club’s rebuilding stretch.
  • Florida’s new Tkachuk brothers pairing is aiming to push the Panthers back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs after the club missed the postseason last year.
  • Brady Tkachuk has six goals and 10 points in nine Panthers games. Only Pavel Bure, with 10 goals, plus Ray Whitney and Ray Sheppard, with seven apiece, scored more through their first 10 games with the franchise.
  • Florida has produced four hat tricks over its past three games. Tkachuk scored both of the first two, against Columbus on Oct. 13 and Vancouver two nights later. Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Bennett each scored three times against Seattle on Oct. 17.
  • Ottawa and Florida each carry 12 points into their meeting, with the Senators at 6-3-0 and the Panthers at 5-2-2. Ottawa can reach seven October wins, a total it has managed only six times.
  • The Senators’ strongest Octobers came in 1997-98, when they went 8-3-3 for 19 points, and 2007-08, when they posted a 9-1-0 record and 18 points.

What Wednesday’s games mean

Philadelphia heads to Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. ET on a modest roll, but the matchup puts Michkov’s finishing streak alongside Quinn’s strong recent work against the Flyers. The game is available on HBO MAX, truTV and TNT.

Florida visits Ottawa at 7:30 p.m. ET on Prime and SCRIPPS. Tkachuk’s return will be the headline, but the standings matter too: the Senators can add a seventh October win, while the Panthers are looking to build on a three-game offensive burst that included four hat tricks.
