Milan’s third outing of the campaign at Bournemouth already carries more weight than the calendar might suggest. After a painful opening defeat and a convincing win over Atalanta in the second round, Ruben Amorim sees the English trip as an early measure of where his changing side stands.
A useful test rather than a final verdict
Amorim resisted describing the Bournemouth match as decisive, but made clear that it will offer an important reading of Milan’s condition. The Rossoneri will meet an opponent accustomed to a high-tempo Premier League contest, with pace in transition and considerable individual quality.
“It is not a decisive match for the competition,” Amorim said, “but it matters greatly in understanding our current level and ensuring that everyone is ready for games of this standard.”
- Bournemouth are expected to press high and rely on strong one-versus-one players.
- Amorim believes their basic identity remains in place under Rose, despite changes in the squad.
- The Milan coach noted Bournemouth’s recruitment of several quality players.
- Milan’s own responsibility, he said, remains to compete for victory in every match.
The coach has also reviewed the goals Milan have conceded so far. His concern is not confined to one phase of the game: he pointed to losses of possession in situations that did not initially appear dangerous, and called for progress in tactical, technical and mental management of difficult moments.
Rotation continues, with Cisse leading the attack
Milan will again look different from the sides used in the first two fixtures. Amorim intends to keep rotating heavily, and Alpha Cisse is set to start after remaining unused for the full 90 minutes against Atalanta.
Cisse will be joined in the attacking three by Hutchinson and Moreira. Amorim did not confirm Cisse’s exact role before the game, but confirmed that the young forward will play.
The coach urged patience around the player who made such an impact in cup competition. “We must not create too much noise around young players,” he said, describing football as a game in which fortunes can change rapidly. Amorim believes Cisse is only at the beginning of his development and is currently operating at around half of his potential.
- Amorim said Cisse can perform in several roles and is comfortable with either foot.
- He also stressed that the forward still needs experience and consistent work on the training pitch.
- The coach expects opportunities to grow as Cisse continues that process.
- Amorim added that Ruben has the ability to reach international level, but must gain greater belief in himself.
At left-back, Estupinan is expected to return to the starting side ahead of Bartesaghi. Amorim framed the choice as one of balance rather than hierarchy: Bartesaghi offers greater running power and forward thrust, while Estupinan can link play and bring composure to the side. The pair will continue to alternate, with Bartesaghi expected to feature in Udine.
Fitness concerns and an English return
Gonçalo Ramos will not be involved at Bournemouth after feeling some tightness, although Amorim insisted the issue is precautionary and not serious. Chukwueze’s situation requires further assessment over the coming days, with a possible return only after the November international break.
With a dense run of matches ahead, Amorim accepted that injuries can occur, but his focus is on preparing every available member of the squad for the demands of the schedule.
The Bournemouth visit also brings Amorim back to England following his previous spell at Manchester United. He spoke warmly about that experience, saying he loved the club and its atmosphere, but insisted that it belongs to the past.
“I am Milan’s coach now, and that role deserves full respect,” he said. “I have moved on. I remain the same person, but I am a different manager, with more experience and a better understanding of football.”
For Milan, that experience will now be tested in another altered line-up, against an opponent whose tempo offers a sharp contrast to the rhythm of a normal Serie A afternoon. The result may not settle anything, but it will show how quickly Amorim’s rotating group can absorb the demands of the season.
