Milan’s international break has brought the usual space for squad planning, but one contract file has moved closer to the centre of the club’s thinking: Strahinja Pavlovic. The Serbian defender has become a constant through changing coaches and changing expectations, and Milan are considering a new agreement that would underline his place in the side’s longer-term project.
Pavlovic is currently tied to the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028, with an option for a further season. He earns €1.7 million net per year under his existing deal. Milan are now weighing an extension through 2031, accompanied by a salary increase that could take his annual net wage into the €3 million to €3.5 million range.
Discussions remain at an early stage and there is not yet an agreement on the financial terms. Still, both club and player are understood to want the relationship to continue, a position that should make negotiations less complicated once formal talks begin. Gerry Cardinale and the Milan leadership regard Pavlovic as one of the pillars on which the next phase of the team can be built, and a sale is not being considered unless an exceptional offer arrives.
From uncertain first year to an essential presence
Pavlovic joined Milan from Salzburg in the summer of 2024. His first campaign, divided between Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceiçao, was uneven enough for a possible January departure to be discussed, with Turkish clubs among those showing interest. He remained at San Siro, however, and his position changed markedly in the following season.
Under Massimiliano Allegri, Milan settled permanently on a three-man defence and Pavlovic established himself as a regular starter. That role has continued with Ruben Amorim in charge. Although his qualities do not perfectly match the preferred profile of the Portuguese coach, Amorim has continued to rely on him heavily.
Alongside Koni De Winter, Pavlovic is the only outfield Milan player yet to miss a single minute this season. His steady performances have made him difficult to leave out, offering a level of continuity that has particular value over the long rhythm of a league campaign.
The player’s personal situation also points towards permanence. Pavlovic became the father of a son, Tadija, in April, and he and his wife Masa have settled happily in Milan, where they have recently bought a home. When Premier League interest emerged during the summer, he made clear to his agent, former footballer Zvonimir Vukic, that he did not wish to leave Milan.
For a club also examining the futures of leading figures such as Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot, Pavlovic’s renewal has become an important piece of the wider picture. The numbers still need to be resolved, but Milan’s intention is clear: reward a defender who has grown into one of the side’s most dependable men and keep him at the heart of the project well beyond his present contract.
