Minkah Fitzpatrick gave the New York Jets a long-awaited takeaway Sunday, intercepting Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent at Soldier Field to end a 20-game drought without a pick.
Fitzpatrick made the interception with 11:52 remaining in the second quarter. New York took possession at the Bears’ 34-yard line and converted the turnover into a Jason Sanders field goal, trimming Chicago’s advantage to 7-3.
Quick facts
- Minkah Fitzpatrick intercepted Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent on Sunday.
- The turnover ended a 20-game Jets stretch without an interception.
- The pick set up a Jason Sanders field goal after New York began the drive at Chicago’s 34-yard line.
- Ashtyn Davis had recorded the Jets’ previous interception, in Week 18 of the 2024 season.
The drought extended through the entire 2025 season, when the Jets became the first NFL team since interceptions began being tracked in 1933 to finish a full campaign without one.
Before Fitzpatrick’s play in Chicago, Davis was the most recent Jet to intercept a pass. Davis picked off Miami Dolphins quarterback play in the final week of the 2024 season and is now with the San Francisco 49ers.
New York opened this season with a Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans, its first season-opening victory since 2023, but did not produce a takeaway through the air. The dry spell continued during close losses to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 and the Detroit Lions in Week 3.
Fitzpatrick’s interception removes one unwanted marker from the Jets’ record. The club is still seeking its first winning season since 2015 and its first playoff appearance since 2010.
