Mitch Marner Lifts Golden Knights Past Kings in Overtime

LAS VEGAS — Mitch Marner gave the Golden Knights the finish they wanted Saturday, snapping a glove-side wrist shot from the high slot 2:40 into overtime to send Vegas past the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 at T-Mobile Arena.

Marner ends it after offensive-zone draw

Vegas controlled the opening faceoff of overtime, with Mark Stone getting the puck to Marner in space. Marner moved into the slot and beat Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper for his first overtime goal since joining the Golden Knights.

  • Marner scored the overtime winner and added an assist.
  • Stone set up both Vegas goals, finishing with two assists.
  • The Golden Knights improved to 5-1-0 and extended their winning streak to four games.
  • Los Angeles fell to 0-2-2.

Connelly breaks through on the power play

Trevor Connelly opened the scoring at 2:28 of the second period, drilling a one-timer on the power play after Stone sent a pass across the ice. The goal was part of Connelly’s first multi-point performance in the NHL, as he also assisted on Marner’s winner.

The Kings answered less than four minutes later. Artemi Panarin fired a wrist shot from the high slot at 6:21 that found its way through traffic, caught the left post and crossed the line to make it 1-1.

Goaltenders keep it tight into extra time

Carter Hart turned aside 26 shots for Vegas, giving the Golden Knights enough cover while their offense looked for the deciding goal. Kuemper made 30 saves for Los Angeles and kept the Kings level through regulation, but could not get across in time on Marner’s overtime release.

  • Vegas: Carter Hart, 26 saves.
  • Los Angeles: Darcy Kuemper, 30 saves.
  • Golden Knights scoring: Trevor Connelly and Mitch Marner.
  • Kings scoring: Artemi Panarin.
