Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s place at Inter is framed less by the next destination than by the standards he has carried through his career. The Armenian midfielder, born in 1989, has said that neither Saudi Arabia, Armenia nor Major League Soccer is part of his thinking, insisting that money has never been the decisive force behind his choices.
The coach and the club
Speaking about his future, Mkhitaryan made clear that he has moved clubs in pursuit of sporting ambition rather than financial reward. His decisions, he said, have been guided by the targets he set himself and by the childhood dreams that remained with him as his career developed.
“I have never played football for money,” Mkhitaryan said. “I changed clubs because of my ambitions, my objectives and the dreams I had as a child, which have stayed with me throughout my career.”
For Inter, the message is one of continuity in mentality rather than promises about years ahead. Mkhitaryan does not intend to map out a long-term plan at this stage of his career, recognising the different physical demands faced by an experienced player in comparison with younger teammates.
He wants to continue playing, but has avoided placing a timetable on retirement. “I cannot promise anything,” he said. “I have reached an age where you should not make major plans for the long term. You have to take things day by day and think about the next day.”
The midfielder acknowledged that recovery, training and maintaining personal objectives become more difficult with time, particularly alongside teammates aged 22. Yet his intention is to continue meeting those demands as well as he can.
“It is not easy to recover, it is not easy to set targets and it is not easy to train as players in their twenties do,” Mkhitaryan added. “I try to do everything in the best possible way, but I cannot say how much longer I will continue playing.”
For now, there is no final chapter being announced. There is only the next training session, the next match and the same ambition that has shaped Mkhitaryan’s journey to Inter.
