Monaco kept knocking under the Louis-II lights, even after Lille had been reduced to 10 men, and eventually found a way back through Edan Diop. Yet the final surge brought only saved headers and near-misses as the Ligue 1 Matchday 8 meeting finished 1-1 on Sunday.

Lille strike first but Monaco suffer early setback
The home side’s afternoon was disrupted early when Fati was forced off following an injury stoppage in the 14th minute. Mathys Detourbet replaced him a minute later, with Monaco already trying to establish pressure through Vanderson, Aleksandr Golovin and Paris Brunner.
Brunner fired over from a promising position in the ninth minute, while Vanderson had an early header blocked after Golovin’s delivery. Lille had their own warning shot through Nabil Bentaleb, whose effort from distance was stopped.
Lille took the lead in the 24th minute. Diaoune found Mbappé with a forward pass, and the midfielder finished left-footed from inside the area, sending the ball low into the left corner.
Monaco attempted to respond before the interval, with Denis Zakaria having a shot blocked and Golovin caught offside after a Zakaria pass. Lille nearly added another just before half-time when Nathan Ngoy’s effort from the middle of the area was saved.
Adolf Hütter changed the shape at the break, introducing Diop for Zakaria and Matthis Abline for Mamadou Coulibaly. Monaco immediately raised the tempo: Golovin forced Özer into action from range, Abline headed wide from a corner and Vanderson was denied from close range after another Golovin cross.
Diop levels after Nianzou dismissal
Monaco continued to push, but chances initially went astray. Abline had an attempt blocked after Golovin’s pass, Diop curled a shot wide and Brunner sent a close-range effort over the bar following Vanderson’s cross.
The contest turned further in Monaco’s favour in the 66th minute. Nianzou was shown a red card after fouling Brunner in the Lille half, with Perraud also booked in the same incident. Brunner required treatment but was able to continue.
Lille responded with changes, bringing on Isaac Cossier for Diaoune and Maxima Goffi for Mbappé. Later, Maurits Kjærgaard replaced Bentaleb, while Angel Yondjo came on for Haraldsson after the Iceland international sustained an injury.
Monaco finally found their equaliser in the 74th minute. Jordan Teze supplied Diop, who struck right-footed from outside the area and beat Özer on the right side of the goal.
With Lille defending their point, Monaco created a series of late openings. Golovin was stopped by Özer after Abline’s lay-off, Sané headed over from a corner, and Teze dragged a long-range shot narrowly wide. Nazinho then missed with a header after Vanderson’s cross, before Brunner headed across goal and wide from close range.
Balogun replaced Detourbet at the start of six minutes of added time, but Monaco could not force the winner. Abline’s header was saved, Vanderson had a shot blocked, and the Brazilian defender’s final header from Nazinho’s cross was kept out by Özer.
Özer was booked in stoppage time, as were Goffi and Vanderson, but Lille resisted until the final whistle to leave the principality with a 1-1 draw.
