Monza marked an important anniversary on 28 September 2026, eight years after Silvio Berlusconi acquired the club and began a project that carried the Biancorossi from Serie C to the top flight for the first time.
Eight years from Serie C to Serie A
- On 28 September 2018, Berlusconi completed the purchase of Calcio Monza, then competing in Serie C.
- During his ownership, Monza secured two promotions and reached Serie A for the first time in the club’s history.
- The club also recorded notable league wins over Juventus, Inter, Milan and Napoli.
- Facilities were transformed during that period: a stadium once unfit for use obtained UEFA licence status, while a largely neglected training ground became one of Italy’s leading sporting centres.
- The club has since moved into the hands of the American fund Beckett Layne Ventures, closing the Berlusconi era in ownership terms while leaving its sporting and structural legacy in place.
Galliani’s tribute
Adriano Galliani used the anniversary to remember Berlusconi with a message of pride and emotion. The former Monza chief executive and deputy vice-president described the eight-year journey as another major achievement for the late president.
“On 28 September 2018, Silvio Berlusconi bought Calcio Monza when it was playing in Serie C,” Galliani said. “Eight years have passed: there were two promotions, the first-ever arrival in Serie A, victories against Juventus, Inter, Milan and Napoli, a stadium that was unusable then and now has a UEFA licence, and a sporting centre that was almost abandoned and is now among the best in Italy.
“It was another great success story for President Silvio Berlusconi.”
