Monza will make a change in goal for the visit of Sassuolo, with Noel Törnqvist set to start as Ivan Juric looks for a firmer response in the club’s own penalty area and a first league win of the season.
A goalkeeper change before Sassuolo
- Demba Thiam’s recent performances have brought the decision into focus. Errors on Lecce’s opening two goals last week followed earlier uncertainty in the home defeat to Udinese.
- Juric confirmed in his press conference that Törnqvist would take the shirt against Sassuolo, offering no detailed explanation for the switch.
- The 24-year-old Swede, who joined Monza on loan from Como during the summer, will now have his opportunity after winning the Swedish title as a key player for Mjällby AIF.
- Thiam will begin the Sassuolo match among the substitutes.
The move is a significant one for a Monza side still seeking its first success of the campaign. Juric has been encouraged by elements of his team’s football, but he wants a more forceful edge when matches turn inside the box.
“Sassuolo will arrive highly motivated and full of enthusiasm,” Juric said. “My Monza play well, but I want them to be more ruthless. We have to be tougher in our own area.”
Selection questions higher up the pitch
Mangas has returned to fitness, while Juric’s principal choices concern the attacking midfield positions behind Varela.
Exequiel Zeballos is unlikely to make his first start. The former Boca Juniors player scored from a set piece on his debut at Lecce, but he is not yet at full fitness. The expectation is that he will again be introduced during the second half, allowing him to build the minutes needed for the coming weeks.
Cutrone is expected to operate behind Varela, with Colpani and Robinson competing for the remaining place. Juric will make that final call closer to kick-off.
Monza also have another attacking option available, as Ngonge has received his first call-up. For Juric, the evening against Sassuolo is therefore not only about a new goalkeeper, but about finding greater certainty at both ends of the pitch.
