Serie A returns to Monza for the first match of the fifth round, a Friday evening that closes the league programme before the international break. Ivan Juric’s side have collected only one point so far and arrive after defeat away to Lecce, while Sassuolo come with the confidence of a 3-2 victory over Juventus in their previous outing.
The coach and the club
Juric has an immediate opportunity to give Monza’s season a firmer direction at the Brianteo Stadium. The home side need a result not only after their difficult opening run, but also before the pause in the calendar offers time to assess the first five rounds.
Alberto Aquilani’s Sassuolo, by contrast, travel north after one of the early standout results of the campaign. Their win over Juventus has changed the mood around the club, but the task in Monza is to turn that isolated achievement into continuity.
The match begins at 20:45 on Friday 18 September. Perenzoni, from the Rovereto section, has been appointed referee.
Expected teams
Monza are expected to begin in a 3-4-2-1 system, with Tornqvist behind Kouadio, Lucchesi and Carboni. Birindelli, Akinsanmiro, Folorunsho and Mangas could form the midfield line, while Colpani and Zeballos support Varela.
Juric cannot call on Ciurria, Pessina, Touré or Ziolkowski. Thiam, Goglichidze, Maye, Antov, Colombo, Bakoune, Foe Ondoa, Mout, Forson, Cutrone and Robinson are among the available alternatives.
Sassuolo are likely to use a 4-3-3. Muric should start in goal, with Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Leysen and Doig in defence. Adzic, Matin and Thorstvedt are set to make up the midfield, with Berardi, Sebastiano Esposito and Laurienté leading the attack.
Aquilani will be without Koné, Candé, Walukiewicz, Boloca, Pieragnolo, Volpato and Idzes. His bench options include Satalino, Turati, Van der Brempt, Odenthal, Obrador, Ghion, Lipani, Bakola, Sulemana, Bowie, Kulla, Skjellerup and Dominguez.
