In a conversation with Corriere dello Sport, José Mourinho turned the long-running Manchester City dispute with the Premier League into a reflection on football’s patience. The Portuguese coach joked that, despite being in his 60s, he may need to be fortunate enough to still be around when the final verdict is eventually delivered.
The news from the club
“Manchester City? I would rather laugh a little about it,” Mourinho said. “I think there will be a conclusion, but I am in my 60s and will have to be lucky to still be here when the final decision comes. Now there will be a ruling, then an appeal… I will be 80.”
City have been found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations by an independent commission, while maintaining their innocence against every allegation made against them.
Last Friday, the Manchester club submitted its complete appeal against the commission’s decision. The Premier League has 12 weeks from that date to examine the appeal, followed by a further 30 days to issue the outcome of its review.
