Napoli’s international break has brought an unwelcome defensive setback, with Mathias Olivera leaving Uruguay duty early after sustaining a muscle injury.
Olivera returns to Naples for treatment
Medical examinations confirmed that the Uruguayan full-back has suffered a strain to the external obturator muscle in his right hip. He will return to the SSC Napoli Training Center on Tuesday to begin his rehabilitation programme.
- Olivera was injured while away with the Uruguay national team.
- The problem concerns the right external obturator muscle.
- He will leave the Uruguay camp ahead of schedule and report back to Napoli for recovery work.
A further concern in defence
The absence adds to the defensive issues already facing Allegri following Favasuli’s injury. Olivera had completed both of Uruguay’s recent friendlies, playing the full 180 minutes across matches against Japan and South Korea before the setback emerged.
He will now miss Uruguay’s scheduled friendly against India on 6 October, while Napoli await further clarity on the length of his recovery and his availability for the next stage of the Serie A season.
