Parisian football’s television-rights debate has moved beyond boardroom tension and into the hands of financial investigators, with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaïfi the subject of a preliminary inquiry over an alleged conflict of interest.
An inquiry linked to the July 2024 rights meeting
The investigation concerns a meeting held in July 2024 between the French Professional Football League and figures involved in discussions over broadcast rights. Al-Khelaïfi occupies two prominent positions in that landscape: he is president of PSG and also heads beIN Media Group.
Paris prosecutors are examining whether those roles created a potential conflict of interest during the talks. The proceedings are preliminary, meaning no conclusion on wrongdoing has been reached.
Case opened after Anticor complaint

- It followed a complaint filed by Anticor, the anti-corruption association.
- The matter has been assigned to the Anti-Corruption Financial Brigade, known as the BFAC.

Al-Khelaïfi rejects suggestion of improper conduct
Al-Khelaïfi’s lawyer said the PSG chairman had consistently acted “independently, impartially and objectively.”
Al-Khelaïfi remains one of the most influential executives in European football through PSG’s continental profile and beIN Media Group’s position in sports broadcasting. The preliminary investigation will determine whether the circumstances of the LFP meeting warrant any further action.
