NBA Fantasy Salary Cap 2026-27: Jokić Tops a Value-Focused Draft Board

Minutes, starts and role changes are the hinge points in NBA Fantasy: Salary Cap Edition for 2026-27. Nikola Jokić remains the premium centerpiece, but a board shaped by new lineups, returning starters and young players pushing for rotation room offers lower-cost paths from Los Angeles to Memphis.

Premium minutes at the top

Jokić carries the game’s highest salary at $23.0M after another season that set the fantasy standard. The Denver Nuggets center totaled a league-leading 4,464 fantasy points in 2025-26, ahead of Luka Dončić’s 4,113, despite sitting out 17 games. His 68.6 fantasy points per game came from the full package: scoring, rebounding and playmaking.

Victor Wembanyama enters his age-22 season with his San Antonio Spurs role intact following his first NBA Finals appearance. The back-to-back All-Star averaged 55 fantasy points per game last year and led the league with 3.1 blocks a night. Other than the deep vein thrombosis that interrupted his 2025 season, Wembanyama has largely avoided injury issues, and his defensive production gives him uncommon upside in a starting slot.

Boston’s offense now points more directly toward Jayson Tatum. With Jaylen Brown no longer alongside him, Tatum is positioned as the Celtics’ primary option. The four-time First Team All-NBA selection averaged 47 fantasy points per game in 16 contests after his return from an Achilles injury last season. At $16.0M, his price leaves room for a larger workload if Boston leans on him as expected.

From the locker room

The Lakers have two names worth tracking because LeBron James’ departure has changed the minutes conversation. Jake LaRavia played all 82 games last season and averaged 20.9 fantasy points per game while working mostly as a reserve. He did not post major individual numbers off the bench, but a starting opportunity is now in play at a $7.0M salary.

Austin Reaves already took a sizable step in 2025-26, scoring a career-best 23.3 points per game while helping carry Los Angeles during stretches without Dončić and James. He started 45 games in his fifth NBA season and has a lane toward a permanent first-unit job on the remade roster. More touches should be available for a player priced at $14.0M, particularly in points, rebounds and assists.

Atlanta forward Asa Newell is still early in his development, but the Hawks could expand his reserve minutes behind Jalen Johnson. The Georgia product appeared in 44 games as a rookie, making two starts, and averaged 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 10.6 fantasy points per game. His efficient shooting gives him a foundation to build on, and his $6.5M price makes a second-year leap appealing.

Indiana’s Jarace Walker supplied 25.3 fantasy points per game last season at a single-digit salary, one of the few encouraging notes after the Pacers’ difficult follow-up to their 2025 Finals run. Tyrese Haliburton’s return as the starting point guard should create cleaner offensive looks for Walker. He remains valued at $7.0M.

Phoenix center Khaman Maluach had the fewest minutes among last year’s top-10 draft picks during his rookie campaign, but his Summer League work put him back on the radar. Across four games, Maluach averaged 19.5 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while showing impact at both ends. The Suns could give him a larger 2026-27 role, and his salary sits at $8.5M.

Kel’el Ware arrives in Milwaukee after Miami included him in the deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo. In 34 starts last season, Ware averaged 12.8 points and 10.7 rebounds, along with 1.2 blocks per game. He will have to compete with Myles Turner for frontcourt minutes, but his production in the starting group showed what can happen when he gets a longer runway.

Memphis has the third overall pick, Cameron Boozer, entering the rookie spotlight, but Cedric Coward has a real chance to open his second season as the Grizzlies’ starting shooting guard. Coward posted 13.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game as a rookie, translating to 28.2 fantasy points per outing. His $11.0M number is not insignificant, though Memphis’ collection of young talent gives him a chance to become a leading fantasy producer on the roster.

Breakout roles to monitor

VJ Edgecombe is the youngest player in a Philadelphia starting group that also includes LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey. The Baylor product started 75 games as a rookie, gained playoff experience and averaged 35.8 fantasy points per game. Coach Nick Nurse could lean heavily on Edgecombe whenever the Sixers’ veteran core is unavailable. His $12.0M salary reflects that responsibility entering year two.

Brooklyn appears ready to give Day’Ron Sharpe the starting center job he has spent much of his career chasing. Sharpe has made only 21 starts since entering the league in 2021-22, yet he is projected to exceed that total this season alone. Coming off the bench last year, he recorded 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. At $9.5M, the cost fits differently if the Nets turn those reserve minutes into a regular starting workload.
