Newcastle United Confirm Updated Crest for 2027/28 Season

On Tyneside, where Newcastle United’s identity has long been tied to the city’s own heraldry, the club has confirmed a revised crest for use from the 2027/28 season.

The change is deliberately restrained. After supporters made clear that the familiar elements of the existing badge should remain, Newcastle opted for an update rather than a wholesale redesign.

A two-year consultation ends in a new badge

  1. Newcastle began an extensive consultation process more than two years ago, involving supporter events and research.
  2. The work produced three final crest designs.
  3. More than 27,000 people took part in a vote to select the preferred option.
  4. The chosen design was announced on Thursday morning and will become the club’s official badge in the 2027/28 campaign.

City roots retained

Chief executive David Hopkinson said supporters had asked the club to preserve the key features of the current emblem, a request that shaped the final design and limited the scale of the alterations.

“Our crest has its origins in the city’s coat of arms, and that remains the case,” Hopkinson said. “It celebrates where we come from, reflects who we are today, and will become an iconic symbol for generations of supporters around the world who believe in it and come together through it.”

For Newcastle, the new badge is therefore intended as a continuation of the club’s relationship with its city rather than a break from it: a modernised mark carrying the same civic roots into the next era.
