The NFL has disciplined two game officials after separate confrontations with players during Sunday’s slate, issuing a two-game suspension to line judge Jeff Seeman and a one-game ban to referee Adrian Hill.
Vice president of officiating Ramon George imposed the penalties for conduct the league described as unprofessional toward players. Both incidents occurred during games on Sunday.
Quick facts
- Jeff Seeman received a two-game suspension.
- Adrian Hill was suspended for one game.
- Seeman’s exchange involved Cardinals tight end Trey McBride at MetLife Stadium.
- Hill’s incident followed an accidental collision with Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson.
Seeman was shown on video appearing to direct profanity at McBride during Arizona’s game against the New York Giants. The exchange came late in the fourth quarter, with fewer than five minutes remaining.
McBride had been involved in a disputed third-and-2 play when Giants defensive back Andru Phillips made contact before Jacoby Brissett’s pass arrived. No pass interference or illegal-contact flag was thrown.
NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter, a former NFL offensive lineman, criticized the official’s apparent response in a social-media post featuring video of the moment.
“That behavior by an official toward a player is unacceptable,” Tretter said. “Players are consistently held accountable when the roles are reversed. We expect the NFL to hold officials to the same standard.”
Hill’s suspension stemmed from Minnesota’s game against Miami. Wilson accidentally ran into Hill during the contest, and the referee appeared to yell at the linebacker following the contact.
The league did not announce further details about either disciplinary decision.
