Germany’s training camp in Herzogenaurach suffered a sharp setback on Wednesday when Nico Schlotterbeck injured his right ankle during a routine session, forcing the Borussia Dortmund defender out of the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Serbia and Greece.
Schlotterbeck leaves Germany camp

- The 26-year-old appeared to twist his right ankle without contact while completing a slalom drill with the ball.
- Medical assessment confirmed damage to the lateral ligament in his right ankle.
- The 30-cap centre-back has withdrawn from the national squad and will not feature against either Serbia or Greece.
- He is expected to return to Dortmund for further examinations during the international break.
A fresh blow after World Cup injury
The timing is particularly cruel for Schlotterbeck, who had only recently returned from a serious ligament tear in his other ankle. That earlier injury was suffered during the World Cup, in Germany’s 2-1 match against Côte d’Ivoire.
The latest problem is a concern for Jürgen Klopp as well as for Dortmund, with the defender now facing an uncertain race to be fit for the Bundesliga meeting with Werder Bremen after the break.
An operation is not currently expected, although his availability for Dortmund’s next match appears to be in serious doubt.
