Buenos Aires has long made the Monumental feel larger than a football ground, and on 16 November 2025 River Plate’s home became the setting for Noel Gallagher’s favourite performance of Oasis’s Live ’25 reunion tour.

Gallagher selected Oasis’s second sold-out night at the Monumental as the standout concert of the entire tour, placing the Argentine date above appearances in some of the world’s biggest venues.
Oasis played River’s stadium on 15 and 16 November, drawing more than 150,000 people across the two evenings. The second show, in particular, left its mark on the British musician and the band.
He described it as a concert none of them would forget, saying that the scale of the occasion could only truly be understood by being inside the stadium. The response from the Argentine crowd created a connection he regarded as exceptional.
The choice underlines the Monumental’s dual role in South American sporting culture: it remains one of the continent’s defining football arenas, while also serving as a major destination for global music events.
A stadium looking towards 2030
River Plate are continuing an ambitious redevelopment of the Monumental, which currently holds 85,018 spectators. Plans include a full roof and approximately 16,000 additional seats, taking the venue beyond a 100,000 capacity.
The project is intended to establish the stadium among the leading sporting and entertainment arenas worldwide. It also comes with 2030 in view, when the Monumental could again form part of the World Cup landscape.
For now, one November night has added another chapter to the ground’s modern history. In a stadium better known for River matches and Argentina’s great football occasions, Oasis found an audience that turned the Monumental into an immense rock stage.
