Rayan Philippe’s Late Goal Earns Paderborn 1-0 Win Over Hamburg

Rayan Philippe settled a tight Bundesliga match at the Home Deluxe Arena, scoring in the 88th minute as Paderborn beat Hamburger SV 1-0 on Saturday, 24 October.

  • Philippe came on for Laurin Ulrich in the 70th minute and struck low from outside the box after Felix Götze delivered a free-kick.
  • Hamburg lost Fábio Vieira to injury after 13 minutes. Otto Stange replaced him.
  • Bilal Nadir also went off injured in the 71st minute, with Albert Grønbæk introduced.
  • Paderborn brought on Tom Baack, Felix Götze, Marvin Pieringer and Sven Michel. Hamburg used Terem Moffi, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Grønbæk and Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit.
  • Jano ter Horst was booked for Paderborn. Shafiq Nandja and Lokonga received Hamburg yellow cards.
  • Daniel Heuer Fernandes saved efforts from Santiago Castañeda and Raphael Obermair, while Laurin Curda hit the left post from a second-half corner.
  • In added time, Sebastiaan Bornauw’s header was saved after a Grønbæk cross. Philippe then narrowly missed from long range on a Paderborn break.

What it changes in the Bundesliga week

Paderborn had more of the late pressure after the interval. Steffen Tigges was denied from close range, Pieringer headed over, and Curda’s effort against the post showed how close the home side had come before the winner.

Hamburg had openings of their own. David Møller Wolfe headed wide in the first half. Moffi and Stange missed from distance after the break. Zakaria El Ouahdi had a shot blocked inside the area before Paderborn found the decisive moment.

Philippe’s finish gave Paderborn the three points in Matchday 7. Hamburg leave with two injury-enforced changes and no reward for their late set-piece pressure.
