Panthers’ Taylor Moton Fractures Fibula in Week 7 Injury Wave

Week 7 on Sunday brought a long list of injury concerns across the NFL, with Carolina right tackle Taylor Moton suffering a fractured fibula and several teams losing starters during decisive division and conference matchups.

Key takeaways

  • Panthers tackle Taylor Moton is expected to miss significant time after fracturing his fibula against Tampa Bay.
  • Ravens guard Olaivavega Ioane was ruled out in Baltimore’s loss to the Bengals with a knee injury.
  • Vikings running back Aaron Jones exited against Indianapolis because of a knee issue and did not return.
  • Saints safety Justin Reid was ruled out with a concussion during New Orleans’ loss to Pittsburgh in Paris.
  • Texans wide receiver Jaylin Noel left Houston’s loss to the Giants with turf toe.

Major injuries from Sunday’s games

Moton’s injury was among the most consequential developments of the afternoon. The veteran offensive tackle was unable to return in Carolina’s loss to the Buccaneers, and Panthers head coach Dave Canales said afterward that Moton had fractured his fibula. Canales said the lineman would be sidelined “for a while.”

Baltimore lost Ioane to a knee injury in its defeat against Cincinnati. The Bengals also ruled out tight end Erick All, who suffered a knee injury, and safety Kyle Dugger, who was forced out with a quadriceps injury.

Minnesota did not get Jones back after the running back hurt his knee in the Vikings’ win over the Colts. The New York Giants, meanwhile, saw running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. leave their victory over Houston with a hamstring injury.

Giants running back Cam Skattebo also raised a concern after the game, saying he felt something in his hamstring during his 42-yard overtime run. Skattebo said his decision not to slide on the play was not intentional.

Houston coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that Noel was dealing with turf toe after the Texans fell to New York.

Other Week 7 injury updates

The Browns lost cornerback Myles Harden to a hamstring injury during their win over Tennessee, while Dolphins cornerback Julius Brents was unable to return from a stinger in Miami’s victory against the Jets.

New York defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat was ruled out with a knee injury in the Jets’ loss to Miami.

In Green Bay’s game against Detroit, Packers center Sean Rhyan was listed as questionable to return because of an ankle injury. Offensive lineman Jacob Monk was also questionable with a quadriceps issue.

Raiders tight end Ian Thomas was questionable to return from a shoulder injury during Las Vegas’ game against the Rams.

New Orleans ruled out Reid after he entered concussion protocol, while running back CJ Donaldson was unable to continue because of a shoulder injury. Both players exited the Saints’ defeat to Pittsburgh in Paris.
