Parrott and Abde headline Betis players ending international duty

Seville’s international break is moving into its closing days, with Real Betis players scattered from Tangier to Belgrade, Buenos Aires to India. Saturday brought contrasting outcomes for Álvaro Fidalgo and Valentín Gómez, while the next three days will decide the final chapter of a busy call-up period for the Verdiblancos.

The news from the club

Fidalgo came on for Mexico during the final 25 minutes of a 3-0 defeat to the United States. The midfielder is due to feature again when Mexico meet Chile in the early hours of Wednesday, at 03:00.

Argentina centre-back Gómez did not make Lionel Scaloni’s selection for Argentina’s 7-0 win over Burkina Faso. He remains with the squad, however, and could receive another opportunity on Tuesday against Benin at the Monumental. The match is set to be Lionel Messi’s Argentina farewell, with Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso also expected to be involved.

Junior Firpo faces an anxious wait after leaving the Dominican Republic’s latest match after only 10 minutes. There has been no medical statement on the full-back’s condition, although the Dominican Republic are still scheduled to play Nicaragua at 04:00 on Monday.

International calendar

Troy Parrott and Ez Abde complete their respective assignments on Sunday 4 October. Ireland striker Parrott will face Israel in Serbia at 20:45, while Morocco winger Abde is due to meet Mali in a friendly in Tangier at 21:00. Morocco had originally been due to play Ghana, before that fixture was changed.

Wednesday also brings two further Betis international commitments. Facundo Bernal will represent Uruguay in India at 16:00, while Manu González and Ángel Ortiz are in line to play for Spain Under-21s against Romania at 19:00.
