Paulo Dybala Reclaims Key Role in Gasperini’s Roma

Paulo Dybala’s place in Roma’s season has become clearer with each appearance. After a campaign repeatedly interrupted by injury, the Argentine has returned as a regular under Gian Piero Gasperini, contributing four assists in seven matches and reclaiming his status as one of the side’s most decisive players.

A renewed role in the capital

The number 21 has said he would like Italy to be the final destination of his playing career, with Roma his preferred setting for that final chapter. He also made clear that there is no immediate need to turn the idea into a contract discussion.

  • “I hope to end my career in Italy,” Dybala said.
  • Asked where, he replied: “In Rome and with Roma. But it is too early to speak about it now.”
  • He reflected on a career in Italy that he said had exceeded his expectations.

“I never thought I would have a career like this here,” he added. “This country welcomed me with open arms. The people have helped me grow as a man and as a footballer. There have been many emotions, good moments and difficult ones, as in anyone’s life.”

For Roma, that attachment matters alongside his form. Dybala has again become a fixed point in the team after the physical setbacks of last season, when continuity was harder to find.

Gasperini’s confidence and a European test

Gasperini has repeatedly underlined Dybala’s importance since the beginning of the season. The coach’s assessment has been simple: when the forward is fit, he can change the level of a match.

That influence will be under scrutiny again in two days’ time, when Roma face Real Madrid in one of the demanding fixtures on their Champions League calendar. Dybala sees the occasion as both a reward for last season’s work and a chance for the club to measure itself against Europe’s established powers.

  • Roma fought through last season to secure Champions League football.
  • Dybala said qualification brought happiness and pride to both the squad and supporters.
  • He acknowledged the difficulty of facing some of the continent’s most decorated clubs.
  • He believes the backing inside the stadium can give Roma an additional lift.

“We gave everything last season to get there,” Dybala said of the Champions League. “It brought joy to us and to the fans, as well as pride. It will be difficult because we are facing some of the most successful teams in the world, but with our supporters behind us we will have something extra.”

A future still open

Dybala’s long-term future has not yet been settled, and he has not presented his wish to remain in Rome as a completed plan. Still, his return to form, his place in Gasperini’s side and his stated bond with the city give Roma a strong foundation from which to consider the next stage.
