Platense Edge Estudiantes to Reach Copa Argentina Semi-Finals

Platense found its way through a tense Argentine cup night, beating Estudiantes de La Plata 1-0 to complete the Copa Argentina semi-final field. Gonzalo Lencina struck in the 83rd minute, sending the Calamar into the last four and leaving Estudiantes’ recent disappointment against Rosario Central in the Supercopa Internacional behind them only briefly.

The winning goal arrived late, when the contest appeared to be heading towards a more prolonged finish. Platense protected its narrow advantage to claim the final available place in the semi-finals.

Atlético Tucumán await after their own quarter-final required penalties. They drew 1-1 with reigning holders Independiente Rivadavia of Mendoza before prevailing in the shootout.

On the other side of the draw, Boca Juniors reached the semi-finals with a 3-2 win over Racing Club. Banfield joined them after a 1-1 draw against Deportivo Riestra, followed by success from the penalty spot.

Boca remain the competition’s most decorated club, having won the Copa Argentina four times: 1969, 2012, 2015 and 2020. River Plate are next with three titles, lifted in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Rosario Central won in 2018, while Arsenal de Sarandí, Huracán, Patronato de Paraná, Estudiantes, Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero and Independiente Rivadavia have each claimed the cup once. Their winning years were 2013, 2014, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 respectively.
