Portugal Fans Clash at Porto Airport Ahead of Norway Match

Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport became the latest stage for the growing dispute surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal coach Jorge Jesus, as supporters clashed while the national team arrived for its final preparations before Sunday’s meeting with Norway.

The delegation landed in the northern city ahead of the match at the Estádio do Dragão, but the walk from the terminal to the team bus was interrupted by an argument among people waiting for the squad. Police officers stepped in after tensions rose between supporters taking opposing sides in the Ronaldo-Jesus row.

An airport confrontation in Porto

  1. As Portugal’s players and staff made their way out of the airport terminal, one supporter loudly targeted Jesus over his recent conflict with Ronaldo.
  2. The fan accused the coach of arrogance and shouted that he was not worthy even of “CR7’s smallest toenail,” while calling Ronaldo Portugal’s greatest-ever athlete.
  3. He also mocked Jesus’s press conferences and continued to direct criticism at the Portugal coach.
  4. A second supporter then spoke out against Ronaldo in the same airport area, prompting a heated exchange between those gathered for the team’s arrival.
  5. Portugal’s Public Security Police, the PSP, intervened to separate the people involved and bring the situation under control.

Strain after the Al-Nassr connection

The incident comes during an increasingly uneasy period between Ronaldo and Jesus within the Portuguese camp. The pair had previously worked together at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and had maintained a positive relationship there, but a series of tense episodes in recent days has put that connection under pressure.

Portugal will now attempt to move the focus back to football in Porto, where Norway await on Sunday at the Dragão.
