PSG’s Kvaratskhelia Faces ACL Surgery as Contract Talks Continue

Paris Saint-Germain’s season has been hit by a brutal injury blow, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The Georgian winger is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign and is unlikely to return before next season.

Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery within the next 10 days, with the operation scheduled to take place before the end of the month. PSG expect to have a clearer estimate of his recovery timetable only after the procedure.

The setback removes one of Paris’s most influential attacking players at a decisive stage of the French season. Kvaratskhelia, wearing the No. 7 shirt, had become a major figure in the side after two strong seasons, with his latest campaign considered his most accomplished.

PSG continue contract talks

The injury will not alter PSG’s intention to keep Kvaratskhelia for the long term. Discussions over a new deal have already begun, and the club want an agreement that would tie him to Paris until 2032.

Negotiations have reached the stage of setting out financial positions, although an agreement on salary remains to be found. Kvaratskhelia’s standing has risen sharply after his recent performances, while PSG are determined to retain control of their wage structure and remain within the financial framework established by the club.

Despite the long rehabilitation ahead, Paris view the winger as part of their future rather than a player whose importance has been diminished by the injury.

Collective response preferred over immediate replacement

On the pitch, PSG do not intend to tear up their plans straight away. The coaching staff believe the squad can absorb Kvaratskhelia’s absence through its collective strength, pointing to recent displays, including the response shown against Barcelona after both Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé had left the field.

The immediate focus will be on players already brought in to add depth and variety in attack. Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche are expected to take on greater responsibility, with Kvaratskhelia’s absence likely to bring both more minutes and a larger role in the attacking rotation.

Ferran Torres will also be under scrutiny. The Spanish forward was wasteful against Barcelona, but has otherwise delivered encouraging performances since joining PSG. The club will hope he can quickly rediscover his finishing touch and become more decisive in the key matches ahead.

Paris may consider options during the winter transfer window if the attacking group does not provide enough answers in the coming weeks. Any move would depend on the squad’s output, the needs identified by the staff and the opportunities available in the market.
