PWHL San Jose got an early feel for its new home Saturday, stepping onto the ice at SAP Center before the Sharks’ game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Olympic gold medalist Laila Edwards joined her new teammates for the ceremonial faceoff, with Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini and Oilers captain Connor McDavid taking part at centre ice. It was a brief pregame moment, but a notable one for the expansion club as it begins to establish itself in San Jose.
The Sharks also marked the occasion on their way into the building, arriving in PWHL San Jose sweaters. The PWHL players wore the club’s new gear as well, giving fans another look at the identity that will carry into the franchise’s first season.
San Jose’s uniform set was unveiled Thursday alongside the looks for the league’s other incoming teams: Detroit, Hamilton and Las Vegas.
The first PWHL game at SAP Center is scheduled for Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. ET, when San Jose opens its home schedule against the Minnesota Frost.
