Avellaneda’s difficult opening to the season has brought a swift change on the Racing bench, with Juan Pablo Vojvoda dismissed after just three months in charge. The Argentine coach left the club on Monday, a day after Boca Juniors won 3-2 in the Copa Argentina quarter-finals.
The defeat to Boca, sealed by an Enner Valencia hat-trick, intensified the pressure around Vojvoda’s position. Racing have also slipped to the bottom of Group A in the Torneo Clausura, collecting only five points.
Vojvoda’s spell produced 13 matches: four victories, two draws and seven defeats. The short tenure ends before the Avellaneda side have found a way out of their domestic struggles.
A coach shaped in Brazil
Before arriving at Racing, Vojvoda built a significant record in Brazilian football with Fortaleza between 2021 and 2025. He won the Campeonato Cearense three times and lifted the Copa do Nordeste on two occasions, while taking Fortaleza to the 2023 Copa Sudamericana final.
His Fortaleza side also secured Libertadores qualification three times, establishing the club as a regular continental presence. Vojvoda subsequently coached Santos from 2025 into 2026, overseeing 34 games with 10 wins, 14 draws and 10 losses before his move back across the border to Argentina.
