Raphinha’s only missed penalty came back in 2017 during his spell with Vitória de Guimarães. Since then, and particularly since becoming a regular option for Barcelona, he has shown remarkable consistency under pressure.
His first penalty for Barça arrived against Real Sociedad in the 2023/24 season, when he placed the ball to the goalkeeper’s right. For a long period afterwards, Raphinha developed a distinctive routine: he switched the direction of his finishes from one kick to the next, including when taking penalties for Brazil.
The one earlier departure from that pattern was a chipped effort against Sevilla. Otherwise, his spot kicks had avoided consecutive shots into the same corner.
That tendency has shifted in recent weeks. Raphinha sent penalties to the right against Nottingham Forest, Al Ahly and Elche, while his successful effort against Sevilla went to the left. Against Racing, he returned to the right-hand side and then chose that same corner again for his second penalty of the match.
Whatever the changing pattern, the outcome for Barcelona has remained the same: 13 penalties, 13 goals, and a specialist record that has become one of the Brazilian’s quieter but most dependable contributions in Catalonia.
