In Leipzig, where international call-ups regularly thin the training ground, RB Leipzig will receive the largest single share of UEFA’s latest club compensation payment. The German side are due about €353,000 after releasing 16 players for national-team duty during the 2025 UEFA Nations League.
The news from the club
UEFA will distribute roughly €31.5 million this week to clubs whose footballers took part in the previous Nations League campaign. Portugal won that 2025 edition by beating Spain in the final.
The payment is the first instalment in UEFA’s current Club Benefits Programme cycle, established through its memorandum of understanding with the new European Football Clubs association. In all, 611 clubs from UEFA member associations will benefit, including a number of amateur teams.
Leipzig lead the recipients for this particular distribution, with their 16 international players producing an expected return of approximately €353,000.
The compensation system remains unchanged from the preceding cycle. Clubs are paid €3,845 for every eligible player called into a national squad for Nations League fixtures and European Championship qualifying matches.
The road towards Euro 2028
The latest payment forms part of a €104 million allocation covering both the completed Nations League edition and the new campaign, which has already begun and is scheduled to finish in June 2027, as well as qualification for Euro 2028.
For the Euro 2028 finals themselves, the calculation will move from a match-based arrangement to daily compensation for each player released by a club.
