- Hamburg started with a fifth-minute corner and Yussuf Poulsen had an early effort blocked, but Leipzig settled first. Nicolás Capaldo was booked in the sixth minute for a dangerous challenge.
- Leipzig went ahead after 17 minutes. Ezechiel Banzuzi delivered from the left and Tidiam Gomis finished from the centre of the box.
- Willi Orbán twice headed narrowly wide from Leipzig set pieces before Nusa made it 2-0 in the 28th minute. The Norway international struck from outside the area into the top-right corner.
- Assan Ouédraogo went down after a challenge from Albert Grønbæk on 30 minutes and could not continue. Christopher Nkunku replaced him five minutes later.
- Hamburg created moments before the break. Patson Daka fired just wide after Zakaria El Ouahdi’s pass, while Maarten Vandevoordt dealt with efforts from Daka and Nicolai Remberg. Vandevoordt also required treatment following contact with Yussuf Poulsen.

- Leipzig absorbed that spell and increased the gap on 72 minutes. Nusa’s free-kick found Orbán at close range, with the captain finishing from the right side of the six-yard area.
- Both sides changed personnel soon after. Hamburg introduced Warmed Omari and Fábio Vieira for Shafiq Nandja and Daka, while Leipzig sent on Maxime Estève, Ridle Baku and Rômulo. Otto Stange later replaced Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Bakery Jatta came on for El Ouahdi.
- Nusa then created Leipzig’s fourth. His pass released Nkunku in the middle, and the forward finished with his right foot in the 74th minute.
- Rômulo completed the scoring three minutes later, driving a right-footed shot into the right side of the net from inside the area.

- Nusa scored once and set up Orbán and Nkunku. He was replaced by Max Finkgräfe in the 78th minute.
- Nkunku had earlier been denied from close range and headed over from a David Raum cross before his goal.
- Hamburg’s best second-half openings fell to Moffi, El Ouahdi and Capaldo, but Leipzig kept a clean sheet.
- Castello Lukeba was booked for a dangerous foul early in the second half. Nandja also received a yellow card.
- Brajan Gruda went close late on with a left-footed shot from outside the box that skimmed over the crossbar.
