In Madrid, the fallout from Sunday’s derby has moved beyond the touchline, with Real Madrid and La Liga president Javier Tebas trading increasingly hostile public statements.

There is no French-football development in this dispute: it concerns Spanish football, where the row between Real Madrid and Tebas has intensified after Real’s 2-1 defeat to Atlético de Madrid.
Real Madrid’s complaints began with refereeing decisions in the derby. The club believes it has been unfairly treated, while also arguing that Barcelona, who sit six points clear at the top of the table, have received favourable officiating.
Tebas responded by accusing Real’s leadership of looking for a conspiracy rather than addressing the team’s performances on the pitch. He said the club’s directors appeared to be living “in a different galaxy”, in remarks widely viewed as a criticism of José Mourinho’s side.
Real Madrid answered with a formal statement, describing Tebas’s conduct as unacceptable for the president of the league. The club said he had repeatedly used his institutional role to disparage Real Madrid in public.
The Bernabéu side said it had become a regular target of attacks and considered Tebas’s latest comments especially serious and difficult to understand from a senior football administrator.
Real also argued that the La Liga president’s approach was damaging the standing of both the competition and Spanish football internationally. It called for a leader able to meet what it described as the basic obligation of neutrality.
The exchange adds another chapter to a long-running clash between Florentino Pérez’s club and Tebas, with the argument now fuelled by a derby defeat and Real Madrid’s growing frustration over their position behind Barcelona.
