Manchester’s Academy Stadium is the next European stop for Real Madrid Women, who arrive in the city seeking a first win of this season’s Women’s Champions League league phase against Manchester City.
The news from the club
Pau Quesada’s side drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain at the Alfredo Di Stéfano in their opening European fixture. Felicia Schröder put Madrid ahead inside two minutes, before Karchaoui levelled from the penalty spot late in the match.
Quesada has urged his players to meet the occasion with ambition and composure. He said City demand the highest level from the opening minute, but Madrid must pursue all three points rather than focus on their existing points total in a rapidly shifting Champions League campaign.
Real Madrid hold an unbeaten record across their three previous Women’s Champions League meetings with City, winning twice and drawing once. Their most recent encounter came in Madrid in August 2022, when Caroline Weir scored the only goal in a 1-0 home victory.
Team selections and match details
The second league-phase match begins at 21:00 at the Academy Stadium, a venue with a capacity of around 7,000. Italy’s Silvia Gasperotti will referee, with fellow Italian Michael Fabbri assigned to VAR duties.
