Real Sociedad Lead Deportivo 2-0 at Half-Time After Martín and Zakharyan Goals

Real Sociedad carried a 2-0 lead into the interval against Deportivo de La Coruña after turning a difficult opening at Anoeta into a controlled advantage, with Jon Martín and Arsen Zakharyan striking in the first half.

Pellegrino Matarazzo had Real Sociedad’s options including Marrero, Aihen, Gorrotxa, Zubeldia, Turrientes, Oyarzabal, Ochieng, Kubo, Pacheco, Fort, Carrera and Beitia. Antonio Hidalgo’s Deportivo group included Ferllo, Alti, Noubi, Riki, Loureiro, Amatucci, Angeliño, Asp Jensen, Adama, Martín, Kevin Sr and Noé. Before kick-off, Hidalgo said his side had to find answers: “Life arrives as it arrives; you have to look for solutions.”

Real Sociedad find the decisive moments

Deportivo began with freedom and made the home side uncomfortable, dictating the early rhythm despite creating little of note. Real Sociedad gradually shifted possession and territory in their favour, and the first genuinely clear opening became the breakthrough.

From a short corner, Carlos Soler exchanged passes with Gonçalo Guedes before delivering towards the far post. Jon Martín arrived unmarked and directed a high, angled header beyond Leo Román.

The goal brought Real Sociedad’s strongest spell. Zakharyan then doubled the margin with a low effort from the edge of the area, a shot Román did not get across to stop.

Deportivo chances fail to alter the score

Deportivo had threatened through Yeremay, whose work forced Álex Remiro into a one-handed clearance. Villares collected the loose ball but sent his attempt wide. Nsongo also saw a shot blocked by Sarr.

After falling behind, the visitors showed signs of response. A Soriano strike did not find the target, while another opportunity was stopped by a desperate defensive block from the Real Sociedad centre-back. Luismi Cruz later supplied a cross that Jon Martín headed back across goal, obliging Remiro to push it away for a corner.

At the other end, Nsongo blocked a powerful shot from outside the area, while Soler’s inswinging corner was gathered by Román. A low Real Sociedad attempt clipped the side-netting after a possible touch from Giménez went unseen.

Background to the Anoeta contest

The result at the break contrasted with Deportivo’s recent record away from A Coruña. The Galicians had not lost on the road since February, when Castellón beat them at Castalia in the 26th round of Segunda División.

Real Sociedad also held a clear historical scoring advantage in the fixture, with 93 goals to Deportivo’s 49.

For Nsongo Bil, the visit marked another rapid step in a changing career. On 1 March 2026, while still playing for Real Sociedad B in Segunda División, he scored the temporary 2-1 at the San Sebastián ground before Deportivo recovered to win 3-2.

Deportivo remained without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as he continued his recovery from a meniscus operation following the match against Betis. The forward described it as his first injury lasting more than 10 days, adding that he was now facing the process “with a new knee”.
