Rodrigo Huescas Resumes Copenhagen Training After Long Knee Layoff

In Copenhagen, Rodrigo Huescas has taken a decisive step back towards the European game. The Mexican full-back has rejoined first-team training after spending almost a year out with a serious knee injury, bringing a long rehabilitation period closer to its competitive end.

Copenhagen have confirmed that Huescas is again working alongside his team-mates. The club’s plan is for him to return to match action after the September and October international breaks, provided his recovery continues as expected.

A long absence after the Qarabag injury

Huescas has not played since October last year, when he damaged knee ligaments during Copenhagen’s Champions League trip to Qarabag in Azerbaijan. The injury halted his first European season at a time when the former Cruz Azul player was aiming to establish himself in Denmark.

The lay-off effectively ruled him out of most of the 2025-26 campaign and cost him a place at the 2026 World Cup, a major personal target with Mexico.

Now back in collective sessions, the 23-year-old faces the next part of the process: regaining sharpness, rebuilding match fitness and competing again for a place in Copenhagen’s side.

“I can’t wait to play again,” Huescas said in comments released by the Danish club.

European return in sight

Huescas left Cruz Azul to continue his development abroad, and his return offers Copenhagen another option on the flank once he is ready for the demands of competitive football. For the player, the immediate aim is to recover the level that had placed him among Mexico’s international contenders before the injury.
