Roma Could Revisit Endrick Deal in January as Real Madrid Role Stays Limited

Roma’s summer pursuit of Endrick was halted at the last moment, but the Brazilian forward’s limited role at Real Madrid has left the door open for the discussion to return in January.

The decision

Gasperini’s side had come close to bringing Endrick to Trigoria during the summer window. Sporting director D’Amico had secured Real Madrid’s agreement after working discreetly on the deal, while the player was also receptive to the move.

Roma initially sought a loan with an option to buy. The negotiations later moved towards a straight loan, with scope for the arrangement to be extended. Endrick understood that regular opportunities in Madrid would be difficult, particularly after Diomande’s arrival, and he had already experienced a similar situation when he joined Lyon on loan in order to protect his hopes of reaching the World Cup.

The forward was effectively ready to work under Gasperini before José Mourinho intervened. One call from the coach changed the course of the move, with Mourinho assuring Endrick that he would receive playing time if he remained at Real Madrid.

That assurance has not yet translated into minutes. Endrick has made only one appearance in the opening part of the season, playing four minutes against Elche. His lack of action has also drawn concern from Brazil.

Carlo Ancelotti warned that Brazilian prospects cannot develop without competitive football, citing Endrick alongside Estevão. The Brazil coach believes Endrick has the potential to become an important player for the national side, but stressed that he must play regularly in order to progress.

That message has added weight to the player’s camp reopening contact with Real Madrid. Endrick, born in 2006, wants a clearer path to the pitch, and another temporary move in January is again being considered.

Roma remain interested. Gasperini sees Endrick as a player capable of operating across the attacking line and providing a direct, explosive quality that the squad still lacks. The player’s willingness to join does not appear to be an obstacle; the key issue is whether Mourinho will now sanction his departure.

If that permission is not granted, Roma have alternative names under consideration, including Van Bommel, Luiz Henrique and Kvernadze.

Sunday’s picture

The story will carry an added edge on 14 October, when Roma face Mourinho’s Real Madrid at the Olimpico in the Champions League. Endrick could have approached that evening as a Roma player, potentially even as a starter, but instead he is set to arrive among the opposition.
