Milan’s new Portuguese manager has recorded the highest average score so far, with a 3.6 mark built on a succession of substitutions that have altered matches.
The Fantacampionato coaching score is shaped by penalties and by rewards tied to results and decisive changes. A victory earns the manager three points, while a draw is worth one. There is another point for each substitute who comes on to score, plus 0.5 for every replacement who supplies at least one assist.
Amorim leads a close coaching race
Amorim’s advantage has come through five substitutions followed by goals and four more that produced assists. It is the sort of return that underlines the value of a coach reading the rhythm of an afternoon correctly, particularly when a match begins to open after the interval.
Roma’s Gian Piero Gasperini stands second on 3.2. The former Atalanta coach has seen three players introduced from the bench find the net, with another substitute going on to create a goal.
Luciano Spalletti has the same 3.2 average at Juventus. His numbers from the bench are even more prolific in front of goal: five replacements have scored after entering the game, while two have delivered assists.
Inter’s Cristian Chivu follows in fourth place with a 3.1 average. Two of his changes have brought goals and one has led to an assist, keeping the Nerazzurri coach close to the leading group.
Fifth is Gennaro Gattuso, whose Lazio have become one of the early stories of the Serie A campaign. The Biancocelesti are top of the league after winning four of their first five fixtures, and Gattuso’s fantasy average of 3.0 has also been helped by substitutes who have gone on to score. In a young championship, the league table and the coaches’ table are already telling a similar story: timely decisions from the touchline are carrying real weight.
