With the Ashe crowd heavily behind Gauff, Rybakina kept her nerve in the decisive stages. Gauff said her opponent applied pressure in every phase of the match, on serve and return, and was better able to maintain her position when the contest tightened.
The New York run follows Rybakina’s late-season surge last year, when she won six consecutive matches to qualify for the WTA Finals and then went unbeaten through five matches to claim that title. She carried the momentum into 2026 by winning the Australian Open, endured a quieter stretch afterward, and has now re-emerged when the stakes are highest.
Her serve will again be central in the final. Rybakina has fired 42 aces, second only to Noskova in the draw, while her 143 winners rank third among the women. If she can protect her service games cleanly, she has the power to deny Sabalenka the early control she has imposed on so many opponents during this title defence.
Saturday will be Rybakina’s fourth major final and her second this season, while Sabalenka chases a third straight US Open crown. The rankings battle has already been settled in Rybakina’s favor; the final contest is for the New York title, the season’s final major trophy, and another chapter in one of the game’s leading hard-court rivalries.
