Milan travel to Reggio Emilia on Sunday with the task of turning their latest league win into momentum, while Sassuolo return from the international break seeking a response after defeat to Monza. The sixth-round meeting at the Mapei Stadium brings together Alberto Aquilani’s side and Ruben Amorim’s Milan at an early point in a season still taking shape.

The decision

Sassuolo host Milan at 18:00 on Sunday 11 October, with Francesco Fourneau of the Rome section appointed referee.

For the home side, the match is an opportunity to put the Monza loss behind them. Aquilani has a lengthy injury list: Koné, Candé, Walukiewicz, Boloca, Pieragnolo, Volpato and Idzes are unavailable. There are no suspensions or players one booking from a ban.

Milan arrive after winning their previous Serie A fixture and will also have Gonçalo Ramos available following encouraging displays for Portugal during the break. Aquilani is expected to set Sassuolo up in a 4-3-3, with Berardi and Laurienté either side of Sebastiano Esposito. Muric should start in goal behind a back four of Cinquegrano, Caleta-Car, Leysen and Doig. Adzic, Matic and Thorstvedt are the projected midfield three.

Amorim’s likely Milan selection is listed in a 4-4-1-1 shape. Maignan is expected between the posts, with Gila, De Winter, Pavlovic and Bartesaghi in defence. Chukwueze, Modric, Rabiot and D. Moreira are set to form the midfield line, leaving Pulisic close to Ramos in attack.

Sassuolo’s bench options include Satalino, Turati, Van der Brempt, Odenthal, Obrador, Ghion, Lipani, Bakola, Sulemana, Bowie, Kulla, Skjellerup and Dominguez.
