Scaloni Urges Atlético Madrid to Protect Julián Álvarez

Buenos Aires has offered Julián Álvarez a change of air during the international break, with Argentina providing the Atlético de Madrid forward a setting in which, Lionel Scaloni believes, he looks content and close to his best.

Álvarez has stepped away from the daily pressure around Diego Simeone’s side while joining the world champions, returning to familiar teammates and surroundings as Atlético wait for their Argentine striker to rediscover his strongest form.

Argentina’s encouragement after Burkina Faso win

  1. Argentina recorded a convincing victory over Burkina Faso during the international window.
  2. Álvarez produced an impressive performance in that match, prompting Scaloni to address the forward’s recent situation in Madrid.
  3. The Argentina coach said that elite players can go through difficult spells but possess the quality to recover. “They have a run of form, but they always come back. They are so good that they return,” Scaloni said.

A useful break for Atlético

The striker from Calchín remains an important figure for both club and country, and Scaloni made clear that Atlético need him operating at his highest level. For the national coach, the time spent with Argentina can only help Simeone’s team if it restores the forward’s confidence.

“When he is here, he is happy and doing very well,” Scaloni said. “For Atlético de Madrid’s benefit, they need Julián at his best. If we have helped Atlético and Cholo, then perfect.”

Scaloni also underlined his faith in Álvarez’s character, insisting that the forward is not a player who will let his teams down. Atlético will now hope that the lift from the Argentina camp travels back across the Atlantic when domestic and continental commitments resume in Madrid.
