Seahawks Pursue Joe Mixon for Practice Squad After Jadarian Price Injury

The Seattle Seahawks are working toward adding veteran running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad, giving the club another experienced option after first-round rookie Jadarian Price went on injured reserve with a chest injury.

Head coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that Seattle is “going through the process” with Mixon following his tryout. The 30-year-old is expected to join the practice squad after completing a medical examination.

  • Joe Mixon, running back: In the process of joining the practice squad, pending his medical exam.
  • Jadarian Price, running back: Placed on injured reserve two days before Mixon’s expected addition because of a chest injury.
  • Zach Charbonnet, running back: Practicing during his 21-day activation period from the physically unable to perform list.
  • Terrion Arnold, cornerback: On the Commissioner’s Exempt List while facing eight felony charges.

Mixon did not play during the 2025 season after suffering a foot injury. The Houston Texans released him in March, ending a one-season run in which he earned a Pro Bowl selection and posted his fifth career 1,000-yard rushing season.

Across eight NFL seasons, Mixon has accumulated 7,429 rushing yards, 2,448 receiving yards and 74 total touchdowns. He recorded four 1,000-yard rushing campaigns with the Cincinnati Bengals before reaching the mark again in Houston.

Seattle’s current backfield is led by Emanuel Wilson, who ran for 81 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s 30-23 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. George Holani remains a receiving option out of the backfield, while Charbonnet is working his way back toward eligibility.

Mixon is the latest prominent veteran brought in by Seattle. The Seahawks previously added cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Trevon Diggs, with Arnold signing in August before being placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List.

Mixon also arrives with a past legal history. While at Oklahoma, he was recorded striking a female student during his freshman year and later entered a plea agreement on a misdemeanor assault case. In 2023, Cincinnati police issued a warrant after he was accused of pointing a firearm at a woman; the misdemeanor aggravated-menacing charge was subsequently dismissed.

Week ahead

The immediate focus is Mixon’s medical evaluation and the completion of his practice-squad transaction. Charbonnet will continue practicing within his 21-day return window as Seattle manages its running back depth following Price’s move to injured reserve.
