A private request linked to Kylian Mbappé’s family has become part of a wider police-corruption investigation, with a second former officer formally placed under investigation alongside Mohamed Sanhadji, the former security chief of the France national team.
Second former officer placed under investigation
The former CRS commander was placed under formal investigation on 16 September, the same day as Sanhadji. Once in charge of a CRS unit in the Paris region, he has since been removed from the police force.
He is described as having been close to Sanhadji, known by some France internationals as “Momo la République”. The former commander is being investigated, notably, on suspicion of corruption. Both men remain presumed innocent.
A request concerning Fayza Lamari
- Sanhadji is alleged to have asked the former commander to assist with a private matter involving Fayza Lamari, Mbappé’s mother.
- In a message sent to the officer, Sanhadji reportedly underlined the importance of the request, saying it was the first time “they” had asked him for help.
- He is also said to have told the commander that succeeding would bring significant credit: “You cannot imagine the credit we would gain if we manage it.”
- The former officer allegedly called on his network, including a prefect and a doctor, in response to the request.
Investigators from the IGPN, France’s police watchdog, are now seeking to establish whether the intervention was simply a personal favour or whether it amounted to an improper use of influence.
Wider scrutiny of police links
The investigation is also examining Sanhadji’s relationships with several police officials. He is alleged to have offered invitations, signed shirts and privileged access to Clairefontaine and the Stade de France.
Some of those contacts may, in return, have been able to influence his career progression. Further serving or retired senior police officers could be questioned in the coming weeks as the inquiry continues.
