Spain are preparing a bid to bring the Nations League Finals to home soil, with the Santiago Bernabéu and Real Valladolid’s José Zorrilla named as the proposed host stadiums should Luis de la Fuente’s side reach the decisive stage.
RFEF president Rafael Louzán confirmed after Spain’s match against England that the federation has already submitted the required documentation. Only one of the four teams progressing to the Nations League semi-finals and final can stage the Final Four, but Spain are moving early to ensure they are ready if qualification is secured.
The proposal pairs Madrid’s Bernabéu with Valladolid’s José Zorrilla, venues selected to meet the tournament’s requirements on stadium capacities and the manageable distance between the two grounds. The plan would put a semi-final and the final on Spanish territory, offering the national team the prospect of contesting European silverware in front of its own public.
Louzán said the federation had to put forward two stadiums of differing capacities located relatively close together. “We have filed the paperwork in recent days so that we are prepared,” he explained, adding that Spain should not pass up the chance to play the final phase of the competition at home and in a major stadium.
The federation chief confirmed that the bid will be made in cooperation with Real Madrid and Real Valladolid. “There is a semi-final and a final, and it has to be proposed in advance,” Louzán said. “We are going to put it forward with the collaboration of Real Madrid and Real Valladolid.”
