Spain’s federation has put Madrid and Valladolid forward as the proposed hosts for the 2027 UEFA Nations League finals, with the Santiago Bernabéu earmarked for the final should UEFA select the bid. The plan was confirmed in the Wembley mixed zone after Spain’s victory over England, bringing a cross-country tournament proposal from Castile to the heart of the Spanish capital.
Madrid and Valladolid in Spain’s 2027 proposal
The Royal Spanish Football Federation has submitted its application to stage the final phase of the current Nations League edition between 9 and 13 June 2027. Its chosen venues are Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu and Real Valladolid’s Nuevo José Zorrilla.
- The two semi-finals would be shared between the Bernabéu and the Nuevo José Zorrilla.
- The third-place match is also included in the proposed Valladolid-Madrid hosting plan.
- If UEFA awards the finals to Spain, the Bernabéu would host the tournament’s final.
Louzán outlines the venue requirements
RFEF president Rafael Louzán said the federation had moved before the application deadline, explaining that UEFA requires two stadiums with differing capacities and located relatively close to each other.
“The deadline is ending and we have to nominate two stadiums, each with its own capacity, and at a reasonably short distance,” Louzán said. “We have filed the documents in recent days so that we are ready, because Spain should not pass up the chance to organise the final stage of this competition.”
He added that the submission had been prepared with the participation of both host clubs.
“The stadiums will be the Santiago Bernabéu and the Nuevo José Zorrilla,” Louzán said. “We have proposed them with the cooperation of Real Madrid and Real Valladolid.”
A June route between two Spanish cities
The proposed arrangement would place the Nations League’s decisive week across two cities separated by a little over 200 kilometres, pairing the renovated Bernabéu with Valladolid’s Nuevo José Zorrilla. UEFA will decide whether Spain’s candidacy is chosen to host the four-match finals programme in June 2027.
