Strasbourg Feel Nanasi’s Absence in 2-1 Defeat at Nice

Strasbourg arrived on the Côte d’Azur without two important figures and left with a 2-1 defeat against Nice, with Sebastian Nanasi’s absence particularly felt in their attacking play.

The 24-year-old Swedish international had been expected to start Sunday’s Ligue 1 Matchday 6 fixture at the Allianz Riviera, but was not included in the match squad. Strasbourg coach Hugo Oliveira confirmed that Nanasi had suffered an injury while away with Sweden, although he did not reveal the nature or severity of the problem.

Used as a wide playmaker, Nanasi has become a key creative outlet for Strasbourg, and his absence left the visitors short of invention in Nice.

Strasbourg were also without captain Ismaël Doukouré, who was injured as well. The two missing players added to a difficult evening for Oliveira’s side, beaten by Nice in a narrow contest.
