Taylor Hall Injury Clouds Hurricanes After Win Over Flyers

Carolina’s injury picture took another hit after Taylor Hall left Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers with an upper-body issue, and Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour offered little optimism afterward. With captain Jordan Staal already sidelined by a calf tear, the club has brought up forward Bradly Nadeau from the American Hockey League as it prepares for a Saturday afternoon stop in Winnipeg.

Carolina loses Hall during Flyers win

Hall exited in the second period against Philadelphia after logging 15:26 and putting three shots on net. Brind’Amour said the injury “doesn’t look good,” leaving Carolina to await further clarity on one of its early contributors.

  • Hall has three goals and two assists through eight games this season.
  • He produced 19 points, including seven goals, in 19 playoff games last spring during Carolina’s Stanley Cup run.
  • Staal is projected to miss one to two months after suffering a torn calf.
  • Nadeau was recalled from AHL Chicago on Wednesday.

The Hurricanes next face the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Stars remain without Johnston against Colorado

Dallas forward Wyatt Johnston stayed behind and will miss Wednesday’s rematch with the Colorado Avalanche. Johnston was a late scratch because of illness before Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to Colorado and did not make the trip with the Stars.

Johnston has four assists in five games. Dallas and Colorado meet again Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Avalanche could need another body

Colorado dressed only 17 skaters in its Tuesday victory after Zachary L’Heureux was scratched shortly before puck drop with an upper-body injury. The Avalanche may summon a player before Wednesday night’s game against Dallas.

Coach Jared Bednar also had no postgame update on whether defenseman Cale Makar would rejoin the club. Makar missed Tuesday’s game while away for the birth of his twins.

Ottawa and Minnesota manage fresh injuries

Senators forward Ridly Greig did not return for the final 9:09 of Ottawa’s 7-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues. He recorded one shot in 14:08 before being shut down with what coach Travis Green described as a strain.

“We felt it was better to keep him out,” Green said.

Ottawa hosts the New York Islanders on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.

Minnesota, meanwhile, has placed Nico Sturm and Marcus Foligno on injured reserve.

  • Sturm suffered an upper-body injury Monday after being struck high by a Jared Spurgeon shot through traffic late in the opening period against Vegas.
  • He required assistance from a trainer and teammate when leaving the ice and did not return to Minnesota’s 4-2 win over the Golden Knights.
  • Justin Kirkland was recalled from AHL Iowa but did not dress in Tuesday’s 5-2 loss at Winnipeg.
  • Foligno last played Oct. 8, in a 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
