Teen Fan Banned Five Years for Selfie With Tijjani Reijnders

Amsterdam’s Nations League draw between the Netherlands and Germany has brought a heavy consequence for a 13-year-old spectator who ran onto the pitch to take a selfie with Tijjani Reijnders.

The match finished 1-1, but the late incident has resulted in a five-year ban from professional football grounds across the Netherlands. The teenager has also been fined €100 after entering the field during the second half.

Quick facts

  • The incident took place during the Netherlands’ 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw with Germany in Amsterdam.
  • A 13-year-old entered the pitch in the closing stages to photograph himself with Tijjani Reijnders.
  • The Dutch FA has imposed a five-year exclusion from professional stadiums in the country.
  • The supporter must pay a €100 fine.
  • Further costs may be sought from his parents, while possible UEFA-related consequences are being considered.

The boy made his way towards Reijnders as play continued, seeking a picture with the Netherlands midfielder. On a wet surface, he slipped close to the player, creating a moment of risk before managing to take the selfie.

Security staff then removed him from the playing area. What may have begun as a bid for a souvenir from an international night in Amsterdam was treated as a breach of stadium safety regulations, with the intrusion endangering both the youngster and those on the field.

The Dutch FA applied the sanction under rules for such offences in the 2026-27 season. The ban prevents the teenager from attending professional matches in Dutch stadiums for the next five years.

Authorities are also examining whether additional expenses caused by the episode can be recovered from the boy’s parents. There could be further implications under UEFA provisions.

Dutch football has dealt with a similar case before. In 2021, another 13-year-old received a five-year stadium ban after entering the field during an international match to take a photograph with Memphis Depay.
