Florian Thauvin set the tone under the Friday-night lights, steering Lens past Lyon with the authority expected of a captain. Two assists in a 2-1 win made him one of the defining figures of Ligue 1’s sixth round, while Brest’s five-goal demolition of Angers supplied much of the weekend’s attacking force.
Thauvin created Lens’ two goals for Florian Sotoca and Matthieu Udol, taking his return to five goals and four assists in eight matches in all competitions this season. It was another major contribution from the 32-year-old, and a timely one for a Lens side seeking to turn around an unconvincing start to the campaign.
Yannick Cahuzac’s decisions paid off against Lyon, earning the Lens coach recognition after a result that could reshape the club’s early-season mood. Thauvin was joined among the standout performers by Ismaëlo Ganiou, who won 75% of his duels, made three ball recoveries and one interception in an imposing defensive display. Michaël Cuisance also produced his strongest performance since arriving at Lens, taking control of important passages in midfield.
Brest lead Brittany’s strong weekend
Brest were the weekend’s most emphatic winners, beating Angers 5-1 and placing four players among the leading performers. Ludovic Ajorque headed in one goal and supplied another with an inventive backheel, adding further weight to a commanding attacking display from the 1.97m forward.
Lucas Tousart, Hugo Magnetti and Pathé Mboup also stood out in Brest’s sweeping win. Their display was part of a productive weekend for Breton clubs, with Rennes also winning handsomely, 4-1 against Auxerre.
Rennes right-back Bryan Reynolds set up two goals with an energetic display down his flank. On the opposite side, 21-year-old Cameroon defender Mahamadou Nagida combined defensive discipline with five tackles, six recoveries and an interception.
Lorient’s first home victory of the league season came through a narrow 1-0 result against Paris FC, with Swiss goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo playing a decisive role. He made three saves, including a one-on-one stop against Lassine Sinayoko, to protect the clean sheet.
Elsewhere, Matthis Abline marked his first Monaco goal with a fine finish, though it was not enough to secure victory. Toulouse recovered to draw 2-2, denying Monaco a result that had briefly appeared within their grasp.
